People
The population of Kenya currently stands at 31 million people and of this there are over 70 different tribal groups. While numerous indigenous languages are spoken throughout the country the national language is 'Swahili' with most people, particularly in and around tourist areas, knowing a good standard of the english language.
Money
The main currency used is the Kenya Shilling. It is, however, possible to exchange major currencies such as dollar and euro at most hotels or banks. Money can also be withdrawn from most banks using credit cards such as Visa.
Visa
Visas can normally be obtained upon arrival for a fee of $50. Please contact the Kenyan Embassy in your respective country for up to date information prior to departure.
Health
Kenya has several private hospitals offering first class medical services such as Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi Hospital and MP Shah Hospital. It is recomended that you purchase adaquete travel insurance prior to commencing your journey that includes emergency evacuation.
