Amboseli
One of the best elephant watching spots in the world, Mount Kilimanjaro watches gracefully over varied lands of swamp, marsh and woods. You can see the snow-capped peaks of the largest mountain in Africa all the way from Kenya. The endangered black rhino species also a viewing treat in Amboseli, as well as the many buffalo and lions you are likely to see. Cheetahs and hyenas also thrive in this peaceful expanse of endless skies and fields of gold, as flora and fauna peek around every corner of this global hotspot for biodiversity
The bird life is impressive in Amboseli, where you are bound to find egrets, pelicans and crakes, among many others. Volcanic dust yields the “salty ash” for which Amboseli is named, and is but one of a remarkable array of land features, which also include savannah grass, woodlands, hills and swamps. Spring-fed basins stay full even in summer and attract all manner of thirsty animals passing through. More than 50 species of herbivores, game and prey reside in this area. Consider Amboseli a more condensed version of some of the other places you will visit, with more animals present than in neighboring Tsavo, which is 50 times larger in biomass!
