Masai Mara
Witness the thrilling migration of more than 2 million game from Tanzania to Kenya in this spot known as the crown jewel of animal spotting. The Big Five – zebra, lion, leopard, elephant, and rhino – are all here in plain sight, as well as wildebeest and buffalo. The Mara River is the staging point for hauntingly beautiful wildebeest crossings that should not be missed. Seasonal rains and drought drive millions of wildebeest and zebra through Masai Mara. This, combined with calving season, creates prime hunting grounds for predators, yielding a myriad of interesting sightings. Nearly 100 different mammal species and more than 450 avian species are represented in Masai Mara.
The nearby Masai village is home to kind, tribal people who are quick to welcome visitors and share their customs of song, dance and friendship. The men are easily recognized with their iconic crimson dress, beaded jewelry and plaited hair. The Masai Mara landscape is one not to be forgotten: Fields of lilacs and golden grass in the summer are the backdrop for leopards, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, rhinos, hippos, gazelles, and more. In the spring, it’s clear blue skies and abundantly green fields as far as the eye can see at Masai Mara.
