Mt. Kilimanjaro > Machame Route
The Machame is a wilderness route which combines spectacular views and scenery, good acclimatisation and which is quieter than the Marangu (tourist) route. For all these reasons it is perhaps the best of the standard routes on the mountain, and the one recommended for those wanting an uncomplicated but rewarding trek on Kilimanjaro.

| Day 1 |
Arrival at Jomo Kenyatta Airport, Nairobi

You will be met by a representative from Miki Tours
who will transfer you to our Guesthouse for dinner, accommodation and
breakfast.

| Day 2 |
Nairobi-Arusha
- Take shuttle bus from Nairobi city centre at 08.00 and head to Arusha arriving at 13.00.
- Depart for Moshi at 14.00 arriving at 15.30.
- Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Moshi.

| Day 3 |
Moshi-Machame
- Transfer from your hotel to Kilimanjaro National Park gate at Machame.
From here, trek through the lush forest to Machame hut (10,000ft).
- Dinner & overnight at the hut.

| Day 4 |
Machame-Shira
- Leave the forest. The path follows a steep ridge passing through open moorland crossing a large gorge to Shira hut (12,000ft).
- Dinner & overnight at the hut.

| Day 5 |
Shira-Barranco
- Turn eastwards and continue ascending through the dry landscape to Barranco hut (13,000ft).
- Dinner & overnight at the hut.

| Day 6 |
Barranco-Barafu
- The steep path climbs out of the Barranco valley and crosses the Karanga valley, then turns North to Barafu hut (15,000ft).
- Dinner & overnight at the hut.

Barafu-Peak-Horombo

An early start to reach Stella point in time before sunrise, then to Uhuru peak (19,340ft), the highest point in Africa.
- After lunch descend to Gilmans point and down to Horombo hut for dinner and overnight at the hut.

Horombo-Moshi
- Descend passing Mandara hut down to the park gate where you will be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi.
- Dinner & overnight at the hotel.

Moshi-Nairobi
- Take Shuttle to Nairobi.
- Transfer to our guesthouse for dinner and accomodation.

| Day 7 |
Departure
- Transfer to Jomo Kenyatta Airport for Departure.
