Motherly Care Children's Home

Motherly Care Children's Home is situated in the suburbs of Nairobi and has a simple aim - to rescue, look after and give hope to children who have been orphaned and displaced by political conflicts, HIV/AIDS, tropical diseases and natural disasters.

Where the children sleep

At present, mainly due to lack of funds for expansion, the children live in terrible conditions - the home was only meant to cater for around 30 children but because of the amount of orphans that were brought to the home and the backgrounds from which they came from it has been impossible to say no to them. There are now around 150 children squeezed into the home and due to lack of space this means 2-3 children must sleep in each bed - with even more sleeping on the floor. Also due to the lack of space issues the children at the home have very little room to play. Food for the children comes from well-wishers although a lot of the time they simply do not know where their next meal is coming from and say they 'rely on God to provide...'. Meals usually consist of a mixture of corn, beans and rice.

Volunteer to join this project and you will help lift these children out of the terrible conditions within which they live. Your fee will help pay for a large plot of land to ensure not only is there enough space for bedrooms, classrooms and other facilities to go up but also there is enough space for the children to play games and sports to enjoy what is left of their childhood. You will help construct, alongside local builders, a new block of classrooms and a new block of dormotories big enough to cater for all children. On top of this you will construct a number of shops for the home to ensure that when we leave they will become self-sustainable and will be able to provide for themselves without outside help.
