Itinerary & Cost
Day 1
We'll pick you up from your hotel after breakfast at approximately 8am and make our way to Chogoria town for a brief lunch stop. After lunch we'll take the 4 x 4 and drive to where the bamboo forests begins - this is also the beginning of our trek. We start with a 10km trek through the forest until we reach Mount Kenya Bandas at which point its time for dinner and a good nights sleep.
Day 2
Today we set off up the mountain at a nice and easy pace avoiding the more touristsy way up the mountain. Lunch is had on the banks of a stream after which we continue hiking off the beaten track to our final destination for day 2. We set up camp at 3,600m and have dinner and an overnight stay here.
Day 3
After breakfast we continue to ascend the mountain off the beaten track. For this part of the trek there are no paths to follow and we vary the route we take each time. Eventually we reach the normal Chogoria route to Mintos hut and have lunch nearby. As soon as our bellys are full we continue on for about an hour at which point we set up camp and enjoy a scenic afternoon walk. Return to campsite for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4
We set off on a 6 hour trek to the next campsite near Nanyuki tarn. If we are lucky enough to have good weather today the views as we navigate around this part of the mountain can be quite spectacular. There is a short stop for lunch half way through the trek and we have dinner as normal after setting up camp.
Day 5
5am start this morning to begin our journey on the Naro Moru Route to Austrian Hut and straight on to Point Lenana. Assuming we make this journey is a reasonble time we should arrive before the clouds move in allowing for some excellent photographs. We then make our way down the mountain through the route mainly used by tourists arriving at the sirimon roadhead (where the vehicle will pick us up) in time to set up camp. As it will be quite late we have Dinner and an overnight stay here.
Day 6
After some well deserved rest we begin the journey back to Nairobi.
